John Stevenson McMurray was born March 6, 1865, in Grantsville, Tooele, Utah. His parents were James Hutton and Elizabeth Stevenson McMurray.1 The family was engaged in farming and raising stock.2
In the spring of 1879, the McMurray family was called by church leaders to help colonize the Bear Lake Valley in Idaho. The family moved from Grantsville and settled in the small town of Liberty, Bear Lake County, Idaho.3
